SHAME – FEELING BAD ABOUT WHO YOU ARE
Shame is usually defined as feeling bad about WHO you are. Feeling bad about WHO you are is largely described as unhealthy. Shame usually has negative connotations. Actually, feeling bad about WHO you are can be very helpful.
It’s brave – you’re willing to be open to an unflattering view of oneself. Reducing self-delusion.
It’s honest – you want to know the truth even if it will be embarrassing and painful.
And we all would be better off if we improved WHO we are.
One sane reason to feel bad about WHO you are, is recognizing you belong to a species that has evolved to be self-destructive on a number of levels. Just one of those levels is planetery – endangering what you depend on to live. Just think of the mess you could make of a relationship!
You’re stuck with the brain (hardware) that is predisposed to behave in that manner. I’m horrified by the idea of looking into all implications of being a self-destructive creature. Imagine the possible effects it could have on any part of your life.
I think that fact
is worth disliking yourself.
